I guess you already know how much I love Africa. Being on safari never gets old for me. For me, it is a time when I am completely and absolutely present in the moment. All of my senses are heightened as I am looking, listening, and smelling to find those animals. There is just nothing like the sounds and sights of the bush. You become immersed in an ongoing story unfolding around you at your lodge. Each morning and afternoon, your guide helps you to discover what happened while you were sleeping. It is always a fascinating lesson, and no matter how many game drives I take, I always learn something new. On this trip, it was that Acacia trees, a favorite diet for the giraffe, will begin to secrete tannins with a bitter taste if the giraffe is eating too many leaves and endangering the life of the tree. Wow!
